Hi friends and family! I'm going to attempt to blog about our life in Oklahoma so that you can keep up to date with us. I'll try to keep it light and (hopefully) funny, but you know me--there will probably be a serious note or two every once in a while. We miss you all--come visit!
So, we have been in Oklahoma for about 2.5 weeks now. We stayed in a hotel for four nights before our things arrived in the moving truck, allowing us to move into our new condo. Everett and Vivian both did surprisingly well in the hotel--I think because it got so dark in there. We were thankful to get a pretty good night's sleep for a couple of nights. The kids have done pretty well since moving in to the condo. We have tons of windows that let in lots of light, so we've had to rig some blackout shades for the kids, but we've made it work. We're lucky enough to have two bathrooms, both of which are quite large, so Rett is sleeping in the second bathroom for now! When he consistently sleeps through the night we'll move him in with Vivian, but the bathroom works pretty well for now.
Our apartment is a modernist's dream--built-ins everywhere, dark wood, a minimalist style. It's not necessarily my taste, but Ian loves it, so we're trying it out for a year. One neat aspect is that the condos are inside of a historic building, so there's a nice contrast to the styles. We're only a few blocks from campus, so Ian walks to work most days and soon I'll walk or bike to join him. Once we finish unpacking, I'll post pictures.
Vivian doesn't start school until the 29th, so she's hanging out with other kids at a local teacher's house this week, and then will probably come with me to work a few days next week. If you come visit, we will take you to the local "splashpad", which is a mini water park at a local park. It's great for a hot day! She has been accommodating through the whole move. I'm humbled and in awe of her resilience!
I think by now I've emailed most of you, so I'll keep this short. Come visit!
